St. Pete After Dark: Central Avenue, the EDGE District and the Pier

St. Pete's nightlife is easy to walk. Most of the good stuff sits along or just off Central Avenue, so you can start with a sunset drink by the water and end up somewhere with a DJ without ever needing a ride in between.
Here's how to work it.
Start at the water: the St. Pete Pier
Best for: sunset, first rounds, views.
The St. Pete Pier is the best opening act in town. At the far end is Pier Teaki, a rooftop tiki bar with 360-degree views over Tampa Bay and back toward the skyline. It's open late on weekends and has hosted full-moon parties with DJs.
Closer to shore, Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille is a big, lively spot for food and rum drinks before the night gets going.
Tip: the Pier gets better after 7pm, once the heat breaks and the music starts.
Central Avenue: the spine of the night
Best for: bar-hopping on foot.
From downtown, Central Avenue runs west through several distinct stretches, each with a different feel. Go from rooftop lounges to craft cocktails to live music to a late-night dance floor, all within walking distance. Late-night food is easy to find when you need it.
The EDGE District
Best for: craft cocktails, local bars, a less touristy crowd.
The EDGE District covers Central Avenue between 9th Street (MLK) and 16th Street, extending out to 1st Avenue North and South. It's full of local bars, cocktail spots and places with character. It's also home to big neighborhood events, like the annual Halloween on Central street party.
The Grand Central District
Best for: low-key spots, happy hours, karaoke.
Keep heading west on Central and you hit the Grand Central District, with more neighborhood bars, no-frills karaoke and happy-hour spots, and restaurants. The crowd is local and the vibe is relaxed, which is good for a night that's more about hanging out than going big.
How to plan a St. Pete night
- Sunset at the Pier, then walk inland. Work your way west on Central as the night goes on.
- Wear shoes you can walk in. This is a walking night, which is half the fun.
- Have a crew and a plan B. Popular spots fill up on weekends. Keep a second option nearby.
- Get home safe. Walk between bars, then take a rideshare home. Never drink and drive.
